For this Ottawa ensuite renovation, the homeowners wanted to trade their cramped, builder-grade corner shower for something that actually felt like a retreat. Our team at JG General Contractors started by stripping the space back to the studs and rebuilding the shower from the subfloor up. We installed a new, properly sloped shower base, waterproof backer board, and a niche for everyday essentials, ensuring the entire surround was built to last—not just to look good.
From there, we brought the moodboard to life with large-format porcelain wall tile, a coordinating mosaic shower floor, and matching tile extended across the bathroom floor for a seamless look. A frameless glass enclosure keeps sightlines open and lets natural and artificial light pour into the space. We also upgraded the lighting and electrical to highlight the tile work and make the ensuite feel bright, safe, and functional day and night.
The result is a clean, contemporary shower surround that feels like a boutique hotel—only it’s right at home. This project showcases how quality tile work, careful planning, and professional general contracting can completely reimagine a small footprint into a calm, spa-inspired ensuite for everyday living.
